The Religion Reporting Project is an experiential learning initiative offered by Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. This unique project provides an opportunity for Communication students to explore and deepen their understanding of religion and culture through a blend of field trips, engaging discussions and immersive journalism experiences.

Through the Religion Reporting Project, students gain insights into the complex and diverse tapestry of religious beliefs and practices that shape our world today. By participating in class field trips, they have the chance to directly engage with a wide range of religious communities, from local places of worship to sacred sites of global significance

In addition to these eye-opening field trips, students engage in thought-provoking discussions facilitated by knowledgeable professors and guest speakers. These interactive sessions foster critical thinking and encourage students to explore the intersections of religion, culture and society. Through open and respectful dialogues, students develop a nuanced understanding of the diverse perspectives and viewpoints that exist within and across different religious traditions, which will prepare them for their future work as professional communicators.

One of the highlights of the Religion Reporting Project is the opportunity for students to delve into the realm of journalism, honing their storytelling skills as they report on various aspects of religion and its impact on society. By conducting interviews, researching, and crafting compelling narratives, students learn how to communicate sensitively and effectively about religious practices and beliefs, all while upholding the principles of journalistic integrity and ethical reporting.

The Religion Reporting Project at WSU’s Murrow College is more than just a class or a project; it is an immersive and transformative experience that empowers students to become informed and empathetic storytellers in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. Through this innovative initiative, students develop a deep appreciation for the importance of accurate and thoughtful religion reporting, fostering dialogue, understanding and mutual respect among different communities.
